A celebration of Easter in Venice

IMG0090b IMG0097

In Venice, on Easter eve. Walking along the narrow streets, in the dark, after a fine dinner. At the stroke of midnight a church bell started to ring, then two, five, ten, twenty. Soon every church bell in Venice was ringing. It was an astounding, transcending sound. Standing in a dark alley. A sound of rejoice and incredible power. Just as it started, first one church bell was stilled, then another, then another, until the silence enveloped the entire city. A celebration of faith,  A cacophony of sound unimagined. A memory I will never forget. The celebration of Easter had arrived in Venice Italy.
